Estate Einde Gooi, located south of Hilversum, is a vast nature reserve with a rich history and an impressive landscape of woods, heathland and old lanes. The estate was created in the 19th century when Herman Albrecht Insinger combined several parcels of land and built a stately mansion. Today, the area is managed by Natuurmonumenten and is home to diverse flora and fauna, including badgers, roe deer and old beech forests. Walkers can enjoy the serene peace and beautiful nature the estate has to offer.
In the 1930s, Estate Einde Gooi was considered as a location for an airport in the Hilversum region. The owner, Mr Insinger, was open to the idea and proposed a strip of 500 by 1,000 metres. Unfortunately, this area turned out not to be wide enough for the plans; a minimum width of 700 metres was needed to make the airfield safe and operational. As a result, the plan failed, and the current site of Hilversum Airfield was later chosen. Thanks to these failed plans, the estate remained untouched and was able to retain its natural charm, a blessing for nature and lovers of peace and quiet.
