Eel fisherman Freerk Visserman - Heeg
Freerk is the eighth generation fisherman in his family. He takes his boat out on the Frisian lakes and catches all kinds of fish with his trap, including eel. This eel is smoked and sold at home after the catch. Usually, the eel is smoked on Fridays, which you can tell by the smoke signal. If you see the smoke you are welcome to take a look. The smoked eel is then also for sale, delicious for the home.
But there is more! Together with the team of Stichting Palingaak (a historic eel fishing boat), to which Freerk also belongs, a real eel beer has been developed. This is because the taste of beer and eel complement each other perfectly. You can taste it during your visit to the fishery, at a number of restaurants in the area or at local outlets such as the VVV and the PLUS Supermarket in Heeg.
