Ecomare is the nature museum of Texel. Here you learn about all the elements of the North Sea and the Wadden Sea. Through interactive exhibitions, full of fun games, special stories and big eye-catchers such as a real fin whale skeleton, you will learn everything about nature on and around Texel. Even the universe: next to Ecomare is the observatory of Volkssterrenwacht De Jager. With telescopes, solar telescopes and binoculars, you can view the fascinating starry sky during an evening viewing or daytime opening.
Ecomare is also a seal and bird sanctuary; visitors can see the sheltered animals in their special enclosures. In the dune park you can take a nice walk and of course there is room to play in the ebb-and-flow playground. Will you manage to keep your feet dry?
Exhibition Wonderful Wadden
The Wadden Sea is one of the most unique nature reserves in the world and in the Netherlands anyway! That is why it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area stretches from the Kop van Noord-Holland to halfway Denmark. Tidal influences make the landscape look different at any time of day. Magical!
The impressive exhibition ‘Wonderful Wadden' uses games and films to help you discover everything about the Wadden Sea. From its geological history to the animal kingdom. From the wanderers, permanent residents and migrants, to the coal formed under the sea. Threats such as climate change and overfishing are also discussed. Instructive and fun for every age. Learn to appreciate every nook and cranny of the Wadden so that the area can be even better protected.
