As early as 1754, the Count of Bergh established an iron foundry, which was taken over in 1774 by the mayor of Diepenbrock and pharmacist Reigers in Ulft. The name DRU arose from this combination. Cannonballs, fireplace plates, windows, grates, frying pans, bathtubs and gas radiators were produced. The former iron foundry is now the central meeting place for cultural and creative activities and events in the Oude IJsselstreek.
It now houses a library, music school, pop stage, theatre and cinema. It is home to an artists' collective, as well as a water playground, and the DRU Park regularly hosts major festivals. Even without all the events, it is a special area. The industrial buildings give the area a unique atmosphere.
