Noorderheide (northern heath) was used as an air dropping site and was part of “Operation Rummy” during the Second World War. The Dutch resistance and the allied forces worked together to usher in goods and parachuters into the country during the night.
This is also the site where, in 1944, boxes filled with arms, ammunition, explosive devices and more were dropped, in order to be used by the resistance. However, nothing of this lovely piece of heathland still reminds of those nocturnal activities.
