The village of Midlaren in Drenthe is home to two special dolmens, D3 and D4. These prehistoric burial monuments, built by the Funnel Beaker Culture around 3400 BC, are located a short distance from each other and together form an impressive duo. Dolmen D3 is slightly smaller with three capstones, while dolmen D4 has four capstones and is slightly larger.
Both dolmens served as burial chambers for the community's elite and offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives and rituals of our ancestors. They are freely accessible and located in beautiful natural surroundings, perfect for a cultural and historical stopover during your cycle route.
