The Dollard is a unique nature reserve on the border of the Netherlands and Germany, where sea and inland waterways meet. This estuary was created by floods in the late Middle Ages and has since developed into a dynamic landscape of salt marshes, mud flats and unspoilt nature. The area is a paradise for birds, with breeding and foraging grounds for species such as spoonbills and avocets. The changing tides and brackish water give the Dollard a special biodiversity. Cyclists can enjoy the panoramic views, the tranquillity and the rich history of this border region.
