The Doldersummerveld lies between Doldersum and Wateren and is a beautiful wet heathland area in the National Park Drents-Friese Wold. This has a great impact on the diversity of flora and fauna. Ring snakes, vipers, salamanders, pine martens and as many as 111 species of breeding birds, such as quail, partridge the stonechat and many other species, have their habitat here.
A cycle path runs right through Doldersummerveld, so you can discover a lot from your bike. Don't forget to look around, because the animals have priority here. And in this beautiful area, it could just be a Scottish Highlander, a French Limousin or a Drents heideschaap. These (wild) animals are used to graze the Doldersummerveld.
Would you rather see all that natural beauty from above? You can, get off your bike here and climb the watchtower for a magnificent view over the Doldersummerveld. Do you know that this field holds many wartime memories? For instance, several hiding places were hidden here and the resistance regularly met in this nature reserve to forge plans.
