The Dinteloord sugar factory (1908) is one of the last two sugar factories in the Netherlands. As sugar factories needed a lot of space, they were often built in the countryside near navigable water, like here on the river Dintel. The old director's house (1909) and the office of the Coöperatieve Beetwortelsuikerfabriek (1918) are still standing and are both national monuments.
Not only is the exterior well preserved, but the original interior is also well preserved. For instance, the huge boardroom in the old office is still almost in its original state. With a parquet floor, wooden panelling, wall panelling, stucco ceiling, a semi-circular table and huge stained-glass windows. That the Dinteloord sugar factory was one of the most successful farmers' cooperatives at the time should come as no surprise.
