The Den Halderpark is a small park on the Wilhelminalaan in Valkenburg. It is surrounded by the old marlstone city wall. In the middle of the park is a statue of the Bokkenrijders, the legend about a gang of robbers in the 18th century.
They surfaced in waves in southern Limburg and Belgium. It was then believed that a goat-goat was the embodiment of the devil, leading people to believe that the robbers rode goats. They moved so fast across the land that it was then thought that goats must be able to fly.
The real eye-catcher of the Den Halder Park is the Den Halder Castle, raised from light marlstone. It is one of Valkenburg's many national monuments. St Nicholas and Barbara church, located next to the castle, is also beautiful.
