De Zumpe - Doetinchem
De Zumpe is located between the river dunes of the Wrange and the Slangenburg. This nature reserve is located in the basin of the prehistoric Rhine. A layer of chalk has been deposited here underground. Water is pushed up through it, resulting in a lime-rich soil that reaches the roots of plants. This is why this nature reserve contains special flora.
Besides the many special and beautiful plants you can discover here, various animals live here as well. Did you know, for example, that 35 species of dragonflies fly around here? And that 12 species of grasshoppers have been spotted so far (2020)? There is plenty to do here!
