The heart of Rotterdam was hit hard by bombing in World War II. But after the war, the people of Rotterdam put their shoulders to the wheel to work on a new city heart. That gave Rotterdam's skyline a special look. De Rotterdam Building is an iconic landmark of this.
World-famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas designed De Rotterdam. Three transparent 150-metre-high towers stand on a pedestal, where catering facilities occupy an important place. Each tower has no less than 38 floors. This makes it the largest multifunctional building in the Netherlands.
And this is how Wilhelminapier got its nickname: ‘the Manhattan on the Meuse’.
