De Kraanlannen near De Veenhoop is a unique marsh area where capegaten, broekbos and stripen alternate. It is a wetland where various plant and animal species find their home. For instance, otters live in De Kraanlannen. A good sign, as this indicates that the water quality here is excellent.
Did you know that cranes used to be regularly spotted here? In the 16th century, these exotic birds used to perch to rest and mate during migration. Nowadays, they prefer to settle in the Fochteloërveen, but this nature reserve still owes its name to the cranes.
The area is perfect for a beautiful walk. There are three routes: one of 2 km (green route), one of 3 km (red route) and one of 4.5 km (yellow route). You can combine them to make a longer walk.
