Pierre Cuypers, namesake of the museum and the street where the museum is located, was a famous architect. Born in Roermond in 1827, educated at the art academy of Antwerp and died in Roermond in 1920.
After completing his first major commission in Roermond, Cuypers was appointed city architect. He designed many famous buildings in Roermond, as well as the Rijksmuseum and Central Station in Amsterdam and Kasteel de Haar in Haarzuilens.
The collection of the museum named after him includes objects made or used by Pierre Cuypers or his equally creative family members. Modern interior designers are also featured.
Outside the museum, for instance, you will find a large red compass designed by Maurice Mentjens. Since the Middle Ages, the compass has been the symbol of architecture. The museum's permanent collection includes several special compasses. But there are also changing exhibitions with a different theme each time. A great opportunity to find out even more about the talented Limburg architect.
