Customs houses De Acht Zaligheden - Hamont-Achel
The 'barracks' you see here is where the customs officers of the wheelers' brigade stayed with their families. It originally consisted of six houses built in 1871. Later, in 1888, two more dwellings were added on the left. The houses were close to the border station and the border crossing with Valkenswaard. This made the area a playground for smugglers and customs officials alike.
