The Corporal Van Oudheusden Barracks, located next to Hilversum Airfield, has a rich history dating back to World War II. Built by the Germans during the occupation, the barracks was originally intended as a military complex to support the airfield. After the war, the site was reused by the Dutch armed forces. From 1946, it served as a Marine Training Camp (MOK) and later, in 1978, it passed to the Royal Army. The barracks was named after Corporal Sick Brother Van Oudheusden, a heroic soldier who continued to care for wounded men under enemy fire and assault in the May days of 1940, and eventually died of his wounds.
Today, the barracks is a training centre for the Army, specifically for the Medical Service.
