CONO Cheese Shop - Westbeemster
In the heart of the Beemster polder lies CONO Kaasmakers, a cooperative cheese factory with a long history. Founded in 1901 by a group of farmers who wanted to process their milk together, CONO grew to become the maker of Beemster cheese – a North Holland regional product with a characteristic flavour.
Since 1929, the original factory building has been called De Tijd (Time). This refers to the patience required for the maturing of cheese, an artisanal process that is still central to the cheese factory. In 2014, CONO moved into a new, modern building that was designed with an eye for sustainability and energy conservation, while retaining the old values.
There is a cheese shop on the premises where you can taste and buy the cheeses. A lovely place to hop off your bike for a moment and experience a piece of North Holland cheese tradition.
