Clingendael estate can rightly be called enchanting. It is considered one of the most beautiful estates in the Netherlands. You will find the park between The Hague and Wassenaar.
In the 16th century, the place was nothing more than a modest farmers' estate. In the centuries that followed, the farm was replaced by a country house surrounded by a French landscape garden. The mansion became a centre for art and culture in Europe.
The garden art of 1818 is still clearly visible. You can admire an Old Dutch garden, the Star Forest, a snake wall - one of the few remaining in the Netherlands, a farmhouse and a tea room.
The showpiece of Clingendael is undoubtedly the rare Japanese Garden, the only Japanese garden in the Netherlands from the early twentieth century (1910). Therefore, this garden is of great historical value, but in addition, it is also the largest Japanese garden in the Netherlands. Because of the vulnerable plant species, it is only open in May, June (spring) and October (autumn).
Whether you visit the park in spring, summer, autumn or winter: Clingendael is a wonderful experience any time of year.
