On the spot where the Dutch Reformed Church now stands there was originally a Maria chapel. Because the chapel of the castle Bahr a little further on was destroyed, the chapel of Lathum was converted into a full-fledged church in 1528. In the church, the separation between the early chapel and the later church is still visible through a seam in the wall.
