In the former women’s prison on Walstraat in Deventer, you’ll now find a small Charles Dickens museum. It houses a large collection of books by the famous author, including several first editions, as well as prints and figurines of his characters. There are mannequins dressed in beautifully detailed costumes, and a table set with Dickens-themed tableware.
The museum is open to visitors every Saturday afternoon. You can also book a group tour of the Cabinet and the Costume Studio.
Dickens Festijn
Each December, Deventer is transformed into a 19th-century English Christmas town, bringing the stories of Charles Dickens to life. Over 950 characters from his famous books walk through the city in full costume. The Dickens Festijn draws over 125,000 visitors each year and is truly a unique experience!
