Chapel & School Het Mosterdzaadje - Gortel
In 1889, the society 'Het Mosterdzaadje' was founded in Gortel. This association for evangelisation aimed to "...foster love, esteem and united cooperation among its members" and to provide religious and primary education.
To achieve these aims, a school was opened in 1890: Het Mosterdzaadje. Where it started with 28 pupils from Gortel, the school now has more than a hundred pupils. A large number even come from far outside the community and attend school here specifically because of its Christian Reformation education.
Although lessons are now taught in other surrounding buildings, the original schoolhouse still exists. This is a municipal monument of the municipality of Epe. The building is well maintained and still looks as it opened in 1890. The chapel, as it is now called, now serves as a preaching hall every Sunday.
