Castle Moersbergen dates back to 1435 and has had many different residents. In 1927, it was extensively restored in Dutch Renaissance style.
In 1435, Steven van Sleen became the first known resident of Castle Moersbergen. Although the surnames of the owners changed often over time, the castle remained within the same family line for a long period. Daughters married noblemen with different surnames, so while the names changed, the lineage remained.
About a century later, the castle was granted the status of Ridderhofstad, meaning a knight officially resided on the estate.
From the 16th century onwards, various owners put their own stamp on the castle, gradually transforming its original appearance. The last owner, who never actually lived in the castle himself, had it restored in the 18th-century Dutch Renaissance style. The restoration was done by the same architect who also worked on restoring Muiderslot.
