You’ll find the Butterfly Chapel along the Veerweg in Vortum-Mullem. In the chapel stands a statue of Saint Brigida, the patron saint of livestock. On the back of the chapel you can see all kinds of holes. These were made so insects can nest there.
The chapel is an initiative of Piet Lamers, the father of organic dairy farmer and owner of De Schutkooi, Eric Lamers. And let that just be the very first butterfly farmer in the Netherlands! That’s why this chapel is called the 'Butterfly Chapel', because as Eric Lamers says: "Butterflies emerge when they get warmth and love. That’s how it works with people too. With warmth and love, everyone blossoms."
The chapel is part of the legend of Het Duvelsklökske.
