A medieval fortress is located in the centre of the typical German village of Brüggen. This impressive building dates back to the year 1289. In 1350, the castle expanded into a fortress with four towers. Only one of these towers remains. The Brüggener Mühle still stands in its full glory. The mill located next to the castle served as a gristmill and batting mill until 1955.
The castle formed the northernmost border fortress of the Duchy of Jülich and remained so until the 18th century. Today, it is home to the Hunting and Natural History Museum and a tourist information point.
