The Breebergschans was part of the Frisian Waterlinie during the Eighty Years' War. The entrenchment helped to stop attacks by the Spaniards and several criminals were also hanged on its gallows hill.
Unfortunately, the Breebergschans no longer exists, but if you step off your bike for a moment and stare into the distance, you might be able to imagine what it must have looked like yourself.
