When you arrive by bike, you pause. Wow! What a nice location to eat and / or drink something. For the history of the building's origins, we go back in time. The building was built in 1752 and at that time served as a church for the Catholic community. That may not sound very special now, but it certainly was at the time. In those years it was not allowed to practice the Catholic faith. It is also called a secret church.
In the building's 250 years of existence, it has had many different functions. It has served as a church, foundation, apartments and now as a catering establishment. The current name of the Brasserie was invented in 1971, as a reminder of the age-old existence of the Kerckhaen. The spelling with "ck" and "ae" is derived from the old-fashioned Dutch language.
