The oldest parts of this Botanical Garden date back to 1799. At that time, a capital country house stood here. In 1933, Father Peter Jochum started a botanical garden to make the biology lessons at the monastery more enjoyable. Father Jochum received plant seeds for the garden from missionaries all over the world. Some parts of the garden grew from these seeds. In those places, there are now huge trees, including the giant sequoia with its characteristic soft bark.
In the meantime, the garden has been expanded to include a herb garden, a botanical garden and a Mediterranean greenhouse.
