Boshuis Venkraai is located in the middle of the beautiful Oisterwijk forests and fens, an atmospheric forest café with a rich history. This special place was once the home of the first forester of Natuurmonumenten, Jan Pijnenburg, and his family. The house was built in 1913. To earn some extra money, his wife started selling coffee, tea and lemonade to hikers and pilgrims. The name ‘Venkraai’ was coined by Jac. P. Thijsse, co-founder of Natuurmonumenten, and refers to the black tern, a bird that used to breed on the fens.
The Boshuis is now a favourite spot for cyclists and hikers who enjoy nature and tranquillity. During or after a beautiful bike ride through the forest, Boshuis Venkraai is the perfect place to take a break. Inside, the café still exudes the nostalgic atmosphere of yesteryear, with cosy furnishings and tables with old-fashioned tablecloths. Outside, a spacious terrace surrounded by greenery awaits, with a playground for children.
Beer lovers can sample more than 40 different beers, with the house beer being the ‘Blonde Kraai’. With so many options, it is of course difficult to choose. That is why you can always ask beer sommelier Coen for advice. He will be happy to advise you on the perfect beer to go with your lunch and your taste.
The forest café is located along several cycle routes and has a charging point for e-bikes. The spacious car park makes Venkraai a great place to start your day out.
