The border between Germany and the Netherlands has had many faces over the centuries. Once it was an impressive barrier with barbed wire fences as high as 2.5 metres, in other times it was so simple that the kerb was already considered the border. For the inhabitants of the border area, the border was an everyday reality, including border guard houses called Büdeken.
As early as 1920, there was a guardhouse at this spot, which served as a border post. Now, six information panels with photos and texts tell the stories of life at the border. There was also a barrier at this border post, which you can still see today.
If you cycle into Sporker Straße, you will see another Büdeken after a few hundred metres (at the junction with Grenzweg).
