At this beautiful farm in Langelo, Drenthe, nature management and the preservation of old Dutch domestic breeds is an important mission.
Blakervelderhoeve is Tessa and Wim Ram's nature farm. This special farm is home to 60 cows, 15 sheep, five goats and a whole bunch of chickens. Tessa and Wim's mission is to preserve the rare old Dutch domestic breeds, such as the Lakenvelder, De Groninger Blaarkop and the Zwartbles sheep.
All animals on this farm walk outside, in the fields, for much of the year. The calves, which are born on the farm every year, stay with their mother for up to six months. The animals' pastures consist of herbaceous grassland, so nature management is very important here.
The shop at the farm sells meat from its own cows. There is also a milk tap in the yard. This tap is open daily from 08:00 to 20:00. You can fill your own bottles here, 1 litre for 1 euro. Or purchase a bottle. The milk on tap is raw cow's milk, which you have to pasteurise before consuming.
