Besthmenerberg - Besthmen

N 52.498358524755 / E 6.43579048

According to legend, this mountain was created together with Archemerberg when a German giant wanted to dam the Zuiderzee with sand. The sandbag ruptured along the way and the fallen sand left behind these moraines But it is more likely that this mountain was created by advancing land ice during the ice age some 150,000 years ago. The river Regge broke through the moraine over the centuries

Besthmenerberg is about 34 metres high. On top of the mountain is a watchtower, which even allows you to look over the treetops. Enjoy the beautiful heathlands, forests and sand drifts of the nature reserve around this mountain. Breathtaking!
