Brewery ‘De Kerkdijk’ in Lieshout was first mentioned in 1719. The Moorees family brewed craft beer there on a small scale. Probably as early as 1680. One of the daughters married a Swinkels. Their descendants took over the brewery in 1764.
Where small-scale breweries had to make way more and more, the Swinkels family managed to keep going. This was achieved by constantly responding to changes in the market. In 1925, for instance, the Swinkels brothers decided to switch to low-fermentation beer (pilsner). This despite it being more common at the time to brew top-fermenting beer. A milestone that eventually prepared the brewery for the future.
How about a tour of the brewery? On Saturdays at 13:30 and 15:30, this is possible by registration, the rest of the week for groups of at least 10 people. Order tickets via the website, the tour starts at the Brewery Café at Heuvel 5 in Lieshout.
