Bakery Van der Bijl - Surhuisterveen
Right in the heart of Surhuisterveen you’ll find one of the shops of Bakkerij Van der Bijl — a family business with roots in the Frisian town of Kollum. That’s where the bakery adventure started back in 1965 with Auke and Hannie van der Bijl. These days, the third generation is in charge and still works with the same dedication to bread, biscuits and pastries.
The bakery is known for Frisian specialities like sûkerbôle, oranjekoek and award-winning speculaas. The shops also sell chocolate and ice cream made in-house. Everything is baked using traditional recipes, always with a clear focus on quality over speed.
Van der Bijl’s products are available in their six own shops and in the Jumbo supermarkets of the Maripaan Group. A visit to the Surhuisterveen shop gives you a great glimpse into how traditional baking is kept alive here, with care and attention, for generations.
