The artwork ‘Water and Fire’ is an open construction in which the elements water and fire meet. The vertical lines at the top symbolise the extinguishing water, while the horizontal lines at the bottom represent the still water. Together, they enclose the flames in the centre, which is enhanced by the colours blue and red, representing water and fire.
Originally placed at the fire station on Van Schaikweg, the artwork moved with the new station on Hondsrugweg in 2013. The sculpture was fully restored and unveiled again, this time with sustainable LED lighting. At the reinstallation, the artist, then 90 years old, was again present to celebrate the moment.
