The Sint Jans Guest house was built in 1563. It is an example of the early Renaissance architectural style in the northern Netherlands and one of the most beautiful buildings in Hoorn with a richly carved and brick facade. The facade contains the statue of John the Baptist and the inscription 'THIS IS SINT-JANS GASTHUYS' in a niche. After the building lost its function in 1841, it was decided to close down in 1857. After various functions, including that of butter hall (boterhal), it is now a beautiful art center where you can view and listen to exhibitions in the Boterhal.
