Arnhems Buiten is a very pleasant surprise to cycle through. Energy has been a central concept here for decades. A place where landscape, heritage and innovation meet.
KEMA tested electrical equipment, machines and devices at various locations in the Netherlands. There was a need for a permanent place to carry out the tests and Arnhem was chosen.
The KEMA site was much more than just an industrial area.
KEMA invested a lot in employee welfare and public space. The company built tennis courts, a nursery and houses in the green. There was room for art and culture.
After KEMA left Arnhems Buiten, a large number of buildings became vacant. It took time to find a new use and meaning.
In recent years, work has been done to further develop this unique area. Various companies and organisations are now located there. Energy is still a central theme. The site is further developed with KEMA's philosophy anchored in the vision: people's need to work and live in a green environment is central.
This vision makes this place a special piece of Arnhem, where everyone is welcome to work, walk or (re)create.
