The Ankeveense Plassen (Ankeveen Lakes) belong to the Vechtplassen, just like the Naardermeer. Thanks to the largest wet nature passage in the Netherlands, deer, ermines and frogs can get from one area to another without crossing the N236. Many birds breed in this typical peat landscape with lakes, narrow ditches and strips of land. Especially in the spring, the presence of the black tern and the purple heron makes it an enjoyable place to be. Special aquatic plants such as bladderwort and floating pondweed grow here thanks to the good water quality.
