Although it borders Amsterdam, the vast majority of the Amsterdamse Bos is really in Amstelveen. We owe the fact that the park came about to the famous naturalist Jac. P. Thijsse. He was concerned about the greenery in Amsterdam and urged that the Nieuwe Meer area be designated as a location for a forest.
Right from the start, the Amsterdamse Bos was attractive and this has not diminished over the years. There are all kinds of activities to do, you can row on the Bosbaan, play, scramble and climb or just find a quiet spot with your picnic basket.
