Amersfoort owes its nickname ‘Keistad’ to this large boulder. The Jonkheer Everard Meyster had made a bet around 1600 with some friends of his to pull the boulder from Waelberch (Soesterberg) to Amersfoort. In 1961, a few hundred Amersfoort residents pulled the boulder towards the Varkensmarkt. Once they arrived here, they were given beer and pretzels for this feat. As people found the feat nonsensical, the stone was buried, but later dug up again because other residents were not ashamed of it. The stone weighs 7157 kilograms and is two metres high.
