Since 5 May 2019, the Airmen's Monument 'Opdat wij niet vergeten' ('So we do not forget') has stood on this spot. This tribute commemorates the Allied aircraft and crews that crashed in the IJsselmeer, the current territory of Zeewolde, during the Second World War.
The steel plates of the monument are shaped after the water of the then IJsselmeer, in which the liberators found their final resting place. In the centre, a full-size propeller of an English Lancaster of the Royal Air Force has been cut out.
Present at the unveiling on 5 May 2019 were family members of Sergeant Henry Raemer and Lieutenant Leonard Werner, two of the fallen airmen. Their names, along with the names of the other fallen airmen, are engraved on the monument.
