Museum route on the North Veluwe
Harderwijk, Nunspeet, Elburg
This is the cycle route for every museum lover. This cycle route takes you past as many as six museums. While cycling along the Veluwemeer and through the Veluwe, you can get off at the Stadsmuseum in Harderwijk, among other places. This museum was completely renovated in 2022 and tells the story of the city of Harderwijk interactively. And that story will surprise you!
Another beautiful historical city on this cycle route is Elburg. You'll find two museums worth visiting here: the Sjoel and Museum Elburg. The Sjoel dwells on the lives of the Jewish families who lived in Elburg. Museum Elburg tells the special story of the Hanseatic and fishing town of Elburg.
Did you know that Nunspeet used to be very poor? The dry sandy soil made it difficult to grow crops on. When forests were planted and infrastructure improved at the beginning of the 20th century, this changed. It became a popular spot for tourists and artists. As a result, cosy Nunspeet now houses the Noord-Veluws Museum, which uses art to tell the history of the village here.
In the well-known woods, you will also find Bezoekerscentrum Zandenbos, which may not be an official museum but you can see an extensive exhibition on the origins of the Veluwe. Inside the centre, you can watch films about Veluwe nature. With a viewpoint over the Veluwe Lake, this route is complete and you'll have lots of information about this area!
