Cycle route Plants and animals on Goeree
Stellendam, Ouddorp
Zuid-Holland's beaches are mostly known for their wide beaches and interesting nightlife. But Goeree also has a lot to offer for nature lovers. The Volgerland, for example, where many bird species have found a place to nest, rest or forage.
The dunes of Goeree form one of the largest contiguous dune landscapes of Zuid-Holland. The Springert dunes are very quiet, so you might just run into an ermine, roe deer or hare; the West Hoofdvallei offers space for plants such as the harlequin, adeer's tongue and flesh-coloured orchid; in the Middel and Oostduinen, the stonechat, nightingale and dunnock fly and in the Kwade Hoek, a harrier might just skim over your head. For more birds like the bearded reedling and the bluethroat, the Scheelhoek is the place to be, or search for the many duck species on the Kop van Goeree.
